Challenge

A technology news publisher needed dedicated landing pages for their conference and event coverage. Traditional post templates couldn’t organize complex event information – programming schedules, speaker spotlights, and related articles – into scannable sections that serve both in-person and remote audiences.

Solution

84EM built a custom event template with modular content blocks that organize conference information into distinct sections. Editorial teams populate event pages through the WordPress admin, selecting which sections to display without writing code or requesting developer changes.

The template features intelligent navigation that automatically generates section links based on available content. A sticky sidebar keeps the newsletter signup accessible as readers scroll, and external links receive automatic tracking for analytics.

Key Capabilities

  • Modular content blocks for event highlights, programming schedules, speaker spotlights, and related story collections, each independently toggleable by the editorial team.
  • Dynamic section navigation that generates links only for sections with active content, keeping the page organized regardless of which sections are populated for each event.
  • Integrated story cards that pull article thumbnails, descriptions, publication dates, and author information into consistent layouts within the event context.

Results

Editorial teams now build comprehensive event landing pages independently through the WordPress admin. Events that previously required developer involvement to create custom layouts are now assembled by editors in minutes using the modular content blocks.

The template accommodates varying content needs without unused sections cluttering the page. A small workshop might use only the schedule and speaker blocks, while a major conference uses every available section – the navigation adjusts automatically in either case.

Conference attendees and remote readers navigate between sections through persistent navigation that stays accessible as they scroll, reducing the friction of finding specific information on content-dense event pages.

The same page structure established a reusable foundation that extends to future content types without additional development costs, reducing overhead as the publisher’s editorial needs evolve.
