Challenge

An enterprise leadership development firm needed to deliver customized online learning experiences to dozens of corporate client organizations. The firm ran multiple content channels, each on its own domain and focused on a different set of learning paths, and each able to hold any number of client organizations. Every organization needed independent user management and progress tracking, with no visibility into any other organization’s data.

All of it ran from a single LearnDash installation. WordPress and LearnDash both assume one set of users, courses, and settings, not dozens of isolated organizations spread across multiple domains.

Corporate clients required enterprise single sign-on against their own identity providers, granular reporting capabilities, and the ability for organization administrators to manage their own users without site-level access.

Solution

84EM built a custom WordPress platform that turns a single installation into multiple isolated learning environments. Each channel carries its own domain and learning paths. Each organization manages its own users and progress data, while all of them share the same infrastructure.

The solution integrates with LearnDash, the existing learning management system, to provide sophisticated course delivery and progress tracking while adding custom features standard platforms cannot provide. Running every channel and organization from one codebase means updates, security patches, and new features ship once and reach all of them.

Key Capabilities

  • Isolated organizations. Each client organization manages its own users, courses, and progress data with no visibility into any other organization.
  • Multi-channel delivery. Multiple content channels, each on its own domain and focused on different learning paths, all served from a single installation.
  • Self-service organization management. Client administrators get their own dashboard to manage users, assign courses, and view progress reports without accessing the WordPress admin or seeing other organizations’ data.
  • Enterprise single sign-on. Each client organization connects its own identity provider, with no limit on how many the platform supports. Authentication is independent of the channel domain a user arrives on.
  • Hierarchical group management. Parent-child structures for divisions, departments, and teams support inherited access controls and course assignments.

Results

The platform runs dozens of client organizations across multiple channel domains from one installation, so updates, security patches, and new features deploy once rather than per site. Onboarding a new organization is a configuration change.

Corporate clients gained self-service capabilities that previously required support requests. Organization administrators can manage their own users, assign courses, and pull progress reports independently, which reduced the support burden and enabled faster onboarding of new client organizations.

The organization layer provided complete data isolation between clients while maintaining the operational efficiency of a single system. The firm could confidently guarantee each client that their learning data and user information are inaccessible to other organizations, including those sharing a channel.

The platform serves dozens of enterprise clients and tens of thousands of users from a single codebase.
